Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Dominic Bamber and I am a resident at fulford place in York. Just a little bit about this development by Taylor Woodrow called fulford place, Well this is a 92 two bed apartments in York fifteen minutes walking distance to the city walls of York, and five minutes to the millennium bridge so the sites a lovely.
Fulford place was built in 14 January 2004. I moved to fulford place on the August 2004 so I was one of the new people into this development, its a lovely development.
WHEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED.
After a couple of month after moving into fulford place there was more and more people moving into the development. More than 50% of the 92 flats were for rent and not a lot of people didn't own there property.
The development is not far from the York university so you have students who now live at the development and most of the people at fulford place if the rubbish bin lid was closed they would put the rubbish on top of it instead of in the bin.
I live at Lendal House and the people who live in this block keep it tidy but in Heslington House one of the bigger blocks there is people who leave rubbish in the hallways.
Here is a Picture of the state of the bins after two days after being emptied:
THEN THE HORRIBLE WEATHER DIDN'T HELP.
October, November time came and there was the rubbish problems and now the car parking problem as you could never park in you spot at all. Well we had a really bad weather that year and it ended up ripping the led flashing from the roof and from the penthouse windows.
through the end of October, November, and December it was raining all the time and our friend who lived upstairs in the penthouse. She knocked on my door one afternoon on my day off work and I went upstairs to her flat she said is this meant to be normal what was in my ensuite. So I had a look her ceiling was wet in areas and I knew it would be to do with the roof flashing that was missing.
I told CPM and they said they would sort this problems that we had at the site eg, rubbish, parking and the flashing and Clare Joyce replied
"The refuse situation is an ongoing problem and we will get the cleaners to attend to these areas weekly with a letter going to all residents to advise how to use these areas etc.
Roof - roofer has attended but confirmation has not been received to state work is completed".
Here is a pictures of the roof and the car parking problems:
THEN ON MAY 13th 2005 AT 17:20hrs
Well if things couldn't get any worse at this development, well it did because on the 13th of may 2005 someone who was living in flat 50, Aldwalk House, a burning rag was chucked out of the window. The weatherproof underlay covered the whole of the roof structure. At certain points along the roofline the weatherproof underlay extended out onto the surface of the flat. Once ignited it would have permitted the fire to spread unobserved to the timber joists in the cavity between the roof tiles and the ceiling below.
The fire spread to involve approximately 70% of the roof structure of block three and then spread to involve the whole of the top floor block two, internally and externally, which contained flats 72, 73, 74. some damage was also caused to the exterior of block four.
I was on holiday in Florida at the time when we got the phone call to say that the flats have had a fire. I didn't know what I was coming home to. When you come home from a lovely holiday to a scene of destruction from a fire you know how you would feel.
When i came back from my holiday in florida this was the press articles was here are the articles from the news:

Fire prompts tougher laws demand
A fire which damaged up to 60 flats in York has led to calls for tougher government legislation.
Around 80 firefighters spent nine hours tackling the flames at Fulford Place on 13 May.
A report into the fire raises questions about the way materials were used to build the apartments.
The City of York Council said it will press the government to toughen the measures covering the inspection of building work during construction.
In the meantime it said its building control team will discuss materials used in future developments with the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service before construction begins.
The authority also plans to provide a database of the construction materials for such buildings.

Great write up on the fire - I'm just in the process of writing a book which is to include the fire of 2005 and was looking for pics just to remind myself how awful it was (not that I needed any reminders really!). Do you mind if I use some of your pictures (I'm guessing they're not actually yours as you were away when the fire happened?). They probably won't go into the book but I would like to save a copy for future reference and just in case I want to include some.
